(I am an old white guy myself and saying that I am a Veteran,(USAF) a civil rights marcher (back in the day) and Independent voter.
As you said, President Obama is too much of a gentleman to bring up the subject, so the responsibility falls on you & me.
We must enable, (demand) that when we meet a person that cries and whines about 'The Government to ask a few questions.
Question One, Did you vote in the last election?
217,342,419 (US Election Project) people are of Voting Age. Turn out for the Election...90,732,693 People.(2010 numbers) Clearly, there are a lot of Americans of voting age that don't take the God Given ability to have a voice heard seriously...So, I do not put up with the noise they make. They have no voice, so I do not hear them.
As you can see, a very small portion of the population calls the ball...Most Americans do not vote...For those who do not vote, I have some very rude things to say...and make a point to show them what my voters registration card looks like. I make a point of telling these idiots that they are the problem with Government.
Question Two, When did you call your elected Federal Representatives?
I have always made it a point to have the phone numbers of my Senators and House of Representatives in my cell phone. I also go to the extremes of having the e-mail address in my e-mail list.
I have been in touch with my Elected officials over the years that I know who in the the office to call...
Question Three, When did you last call your local elected officials? (see statement above)
If you are not active with your Government, then, you are the problem.
We are the people, and if we do not speak up, then we are the problem.
It is time that we step aside and support women and people of color in our elected system of Government. That we step up and demand from those who find it easy to complain and yet, do not participate in a participatory Democracy.
